By Craig Hubert | Cowboys and Indians, espionage, and Charlie Sheen – these are just a few of surreal moments featured in the trailer for “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III.” The second film from Roman Coppola – and the first since 2001’s “CQ” – features Sheen in the title role as a playboy graphic designer who, after a messy breakup, ends up in the hospital and retreats into a fantasy world accompanied by his best friend (Jason Schwartzman) and his business manager (Bill Murray). While there, the three encounter a series of bizarre scenarios forcing Swan to reevaluate his life. Aubrey Plaza (“Parks and Recreation”) and Patricia Arquette make appearances as Swan’s co-worker and sister, respectively. The detailed 70’s color palate and set design are reminiscent of Wes Anderson – with whom Coppola co-wrote “Moonrise Kingdom” and “The Darjeeling Limited” – and the fantastical elements harken back to classic Fellini, but Coppola has an irreverent, if nostalgic, style all his own. Bonus points for Sheen making it all the way through a project without casing trouble. “Charles Swan” hits theaters February 8.
